Ultra Low Frequency Generator| Detailed introduction of technical principles

An ultra-low frequency generator is a specialized device for withstand voltage testing of the insulation of capacitive electrical equipment such as large-capacity cables. Its core testing principle is to use an ultra-low frequency sinusoidal high voltage of 0.1Hz or lower to equivalently replace the 50Hz power frequency AC withstand voltage test.

Because the capacitance of the tested equipment (such as long cables) is extremely large, the power supply capacity and equipment size required for testing at power frequency are very large. According to the capacitive reactance formula (Xc=1/2πfC), reducing the frequency from 50Hz to 0.1Hz increases the capacitive reactance by 500 times, thereby significantly reducing the charging current and thus greatly reducing the required capacity and size of the test equipment.

During testing, the generator outputs an ultra-low frequency high voltage of several thousand to several hundred kilovolts, applied to the equipment insulation. By observing whether the insulation breaks down within a specified voltage and time, or by monitoring changes in leakage current and dielectric loss, the overall strength and concentrated defects of the insulation are assessed. This method greatly reduces the difficulty of testing while ensuring test equivalence. Ultra-low frequency generator, ultra-low frequency/extremely low frequency generator, 80kV ultra-low frequency generator (1, 1uF), 0.1Hz ultra-low frequency generator, particularly suitable for withstand voltage testing of electrical equipment with large insulation equivalent capacitance (e.g., power cables, power capacitors, large and medium-sized generators and motors).
