Transformer Winding Deformation Tester (SFRA)| Detailed introduction of technical principles

The core principle of a transformer winding deformation tester is frequency response analysis. It determines mechanical deformation by detecting changes in the distributed parameters (inductance, capacitance, and resistance) of the transformer windings.

During testing, the instrument injects a swept-frequency sinusoidal signal (typically 1kHz-1MHz) into one end of the winding and measures the response voltage at the other end, thus obtaining the winding's frequency response characteristic curve (amplitude-frequency characteristic). The winding's geometry determines its unique frequency response curve "fingerprint."

When the winding undergoes mechanical deformation such as axial or radial displacement, bulging, or inter-turn short circuits, the internally distributed inductance and capacitance parameters change. This leads to significant differences in the frequency response curve, such as resonant frequency shifts and amplitude changes, within specific frequency bands. By accurately comparing the consistency of the frequency response curves between windings of the same phase or with historical data, the location and severity of the deformation can be diagnosed, making it a crucial method for verifying the structural integrity of a transformer after a short-circuit impact.
