Variable Inductance AC Resonant Test Systems| Detailed introduction of technical principles

The core principle of an AC resonant test system is to generate high voltage using series resonance.

Its operation is typically variable frequency resonance: the system consists of a variable frequency power supply, an excitation transformer, a fixed reactor, and a test specimen (equivalent capacitance) connected in series. By adjusting the output frequency of the variable frequency power supply (e.g., 30-300Hz), it is made equal to the natural resonant frequency of the entire LC circuit. At this point, the inductive and capacitive reactances cancel each other out, the total impedance is minimized, and the circuit becomes purely resistive, while the circuit current reaches its maximum.

In the resonant state, the voltages across the reactor and the test specimen are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. The superposition of these two voltages on the test specimen generates a high voltage that meets the test requirements. This voltage is a power frequency (or near-power frequency) sine wave. The significant advantage of this principle is that the power supply only needs to provide a small amount of active power to compensate for circuit losses, thus enabling efficient AC withstand voltage tests on large-capacity test specimens such as cables and GIS using a small-capacity power supply and relatively lightweight equipment. This AC resonant test system is mainly used for AC withstand voltage tests of 35kV and 110kV cables, 110kV main transformers, GIS, and circuit breakers.

It has a wide range of applications and is an ideal withstand voltage test device for municipal, county, and prefecture-level high-voltage testing departments and power installation and maintenance engineering units.

The device mainly consists of a frequency converter, excitation transformer, reactor, capacitive voltage divider, and compensation capacitors.
