Primary Current Injection Test System |  Detailed introduction of technical principles

The primary current injection device is used for field testing of current transformers (CTs). Its core principle is to inject a large-frequency AC current directly into the primary winding of the CT using a high-current generator, simulating actual operating or fault conditions. This allows for the measurement of key parameters on the secondary side, such as turns ratio, polarity, volt-ampere characteristics, and 10% error curve.

Traditional methods involve applying a small voltage to the secondary side for measurement, while the primary injection method physically better reflects the actual operating conditions of the CT. During testing, a large current flows through the CT's primary winding, establishing a magnetic field in its core. High-precision measuring instruments connected to the secondary circuit can directly acquire data such as the secondary current.

By analyzing the ratio of the primary current to the secondary current, their phase relationship, and the output voltage-current characteristics of the secondary winding, the accuracy class, saturation characteristics, and winding integrity of the CT can be determined with remarkable accuracy. This is particularly suitable for the acceptance and verification of CTs used in relay protection.
