AC/DC Hipot Testers| Detailed introduction of technical principles

AC/DC withstand voltage testers are used to assess the reliability of the insulation strength of electrical equipment. Their core principle is to apply a test voltage far exceeding the rated operating voltage to the insulator and maintain it for a period of time to verify its insulation performance.

• AC withstand voltage test: Outputs high voltage at the power frequency (usually 50Hz), simulating the AC voltage stress during equipment operation. It primarily assesses insulation dielectric loss, partial discharge, and insulation margin, effectively detecting concentrated insulation defects and more closely approximating real-world operating conditions.

• DC withstand voltage test: Outputs high DC voltage, mainly used for capacitive equipment such as cables and capacitors. No capacitive current is present during the test; only microampere-level leakage current is measured. It can effectively determine insulation resistance and concentrated defects, causing less insulation damage but is less comprehensive than AC testing.

During the test, the instrument gradually increases the voltage to a preset value and times the test, while simultaneously monitoring the leakage current in real time. If the leakage current does not exceed the set threshold and there is no insulation breakdown, the test is considered (qualified).

Combining these two methods allows for a comprehensive evaluation of insulation performance. AC/DC withstand voltage tester, automatic AC/DC withstand voltage tester, AC/DC dielectric strength tester (oil immersion, dry, and gas-filled types available).

The AC/DC withstand voltage tester is mainly used to test the insulation strength of various electrical products, electrical components, and insulating materials under specified voltages to assess the insulation level of products, detect insulation defects, and measure overvoltage capability.
